Every registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain to the servers of a specific website hosting company. This way, you have got both your website and your e-mails managed by the same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the website for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, any time you enter a domain in your browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of another company in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having different records for the website and the e-mails suggests that you can have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account through our company and you want to switch either your site or your e-mails to an alternative service provider, it'll take you literally just two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or create is not going to take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan through us, you're going to be able to see and change the A and MX records for each of the domain names or subdomains you host inside the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you will get to control the account, comes with an innovative, albeit easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you're going to be able to change their records with no more than several clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it will be equally simple - pick the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you'll be all set. Additionally, you'll be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case that you want to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to create additional records other than the 2 standard ones. If you encounter any troubles, you will find a comprehensive Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to create or change any record.
